Offline Usage

The RoutePilot mobile app is designed to work in areas with poor or no cell service. Your stops load when you first open the app and are available throughout the day even without a signal.

What Works Offline

When you have no signal, you can still:

  • View all assigned stops for the day
  • Open stop details and customer information
  • Mark stops as arrived, in progress, and complete
  • Add notes to stops
  • Take photos (queued for upload when signal returns)
  • Capture signatures

What Requires a Signal

Some actions require connectivity:

  • Refreshing route — new dispatcher assignments won't appear until you reconnect
  • Photo uploads — photos are queued offline and upload when you reconnect
  • Real-time dispatcher updates — messages or changes from the office

Sync Indicator

The sync status icon in the top corner of the app shows the current state:

IconMeaning
Green checkmarkAll changes synced
Spinning indicatorSync in progress
Orange warningOffline — changes queued
Red indicatorSync error — see Sync Issues

How the Offline Queue Works

When you make changes offline:

  1. The change is saved locally on your device
  2. A sync marker is added to indicate it needs to be sent
  3. When signal returns, the app automatically uploads queued changes in order
  4. The office view updates once each change syncs successfully

Changes are uploaded in the order they were made, so status progression stays accurate.

Avoiding Data Loss

To prevent losing work:

  • Do not force-quit the app while the sync indicator is spinning
  • When you return to an area with signal, wait for the checkmark before closing the app for the day
  • If you see a red error indicator, check the Sync Issues guide

Warning

Clearing the app's local data (from your device's Settings) will delete any unsynced changes. Only do this if instructed by support and your sync queue is empty.
